I’ve been meaning to write something like this for a long time now.. but.. I (for lack of a better word) ‘drifted’ to other things.. but here it is at last!..I may write similar articles with more movies in the future but its one movie for now… The reason I’ve chosen L.A. Confidential is that it belongs to the ‘film-noir’ genre, a dying genre thats hugely entertaining…

L.A. Confidential

I don’t know if many of you have seen L.A. Confidential.. But for those of you who haven’t, see it now… rent it, buy it whatever.. Anyways, if (suppose) our friends, and those who are not our friends… the dogs, the lunatics.. what if they were to play the roles in this movie?.. Who would be who?

Detective Edward ‘Ed’ Exley: Achingly dedicated to his job.. but doesn’t mind bending the rules to get the crooks.. unshakeable faith in the law.. thinks he’s smarter than his seniors… maybe he is..

Bud White: Psychopath detective.. doesn’t think much.. relentlessly pursues people who abuse women.. probably the most violent guy in the entire department.. thinks of violence as a work of art..

Pierce Morehouse Patchett: Pimp.

Detective Jack Vincennes: Resourceful, has good connections in the media.. which he often uses for his own petty gains.. but beneath the facade of a corrupt cop lies a truly honest officer..

Sid Hudgens: Writes for the thrash mag ‘Hush Hush’.. is perverted and admits it.. tries to blackmail the cops which results in him getting shot.. Nice guy though..

So, ladies and gentlemen, go watch this movie.. now.

UP-West, on the other hand, drives the economy of the state and is also more urbanized and (slightly) lesser embroiled in the deep, and intricate beauracracy of Uttar Pradesh that I’ve grown to be so fond of… But, I guess, the first thing that most people notice on moving from the West to the East is the transition from ‘Braj bhasha’ to ‘Bhojpuri’…

I really had to keep myself from laughing when on buying a bar of chocolate, the vendor turned towards me and said, “Eee chaaklate ka bees tho rupya dei-diyo beta..”…

It wasn’t a particularly long trip.. but it was fun, nonetheless… I’m not really a very social guy but being surrounded by swarms of relatives made for a particularly radical change from Agra..

I had a great time in BHU but couldn’t see it all.. after all you need some time to roam about 1350 acres of land..

But.. to enjoy your stay in Benares, you need patience.. lots of it… the city has pathetic infrastructure.. the roads are narrow and jammed with vehicles.. the avenues aren’t well mantained.. and generally, you get the feeling that it is an old, old city .. Now this might be a good thing at times but most of the times when you’re rushing to avoid traffic and click photographs, its not.

I didn’t like Benares enough to write an article on it but now that I’m back in Agra, I can’t seem to get it out of my head.. Blame the weather.. Six hundred and twenty kilometres have that effect on you.. if you know what I mean..

You know, there are a few places that I like to visit again.. and again.. and again.. like Kashi, Jaipur, Ujjain, Chittor, Sanchi.. not particularly big cities, all of these but there’s something very enigmatic about them that draws me to them… perhaps its because all of these cities have had glorious histories.. or maybe perhaps they tread the path between modernity and antiquity.. Whatever it is, I’d still prefer Chittor over Manali… even in this weather… Now thats insane..

The Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything is 42

Desperate out of boredom, I re-read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.. its still as funny as ever.. And for those of you who’ve got nothing else to do (that means you), just Google this phrase, “the answer to life the universe and everything” (without the quotation marks, that is)…

The first reason seems to be the weather.. I know, it was in the same weather that I posted ninety-one posts in Keeping Track Always.. but its hotter this year.. The heat’s giving me Writer(Blogger)’s Block.. Another reason is the lack of scandalous articles on Verma’s blog.. He’s named his blog rather thoughtfully, ‘All But Crap’.. But his posts fail to live up to the title.. The title could’ve been ‘Nuttin’ But Crap’ and noone would’ve been the wiser.. I’m excellent at writing posts in reply to his articles…

You must’ve noticed that I’ve changed the look of this blog.. And undoubtedly, the header image must’ve struck you first.. This ain’t the final image and I plan to change it soon..

Rain..

No new.. atleast no watcheable new movies have been released and Terminator Salvation has been put up in Hindi.. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think that Christian Bale would appear much convincing as Resistance soldier John Connor barking out orders in Hindi..  So, that rules out going out for a movie.. The television has been flooded with brainless reality shows and apart from the occasional episode of The Simpsons, I don’t find much of interest in tv.

Its too hot to make that trip to Sadar and we’re too lazy to make that trip to anyplace nearby.. Cdt. Shubham Singh has landed in Agra, and so we’ll meet him soon but thats that. Nothing else. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Then, Taj Mahal is just too faraway in this weather.. This weather’s kind of playing spoilsport to every plan.. Its either too hot to venture outside or its raining and then you can’t venture outside.. But its okay, atleast we have a lot of holidays to wait for the weather to clear out.. But anyways, the Taj Mahal is just not the place to visit these days.. It was awesome in December and January, though.

I’m looking to join some kind of classes which would help me steer clear of back papers in the Third Sem. but I just can’t get myself to get up and go out.. No regrets, though. In the first year of my college, and I believe that many others from the U.P.T.U. will agree, I was giving exams every fifteen days or so.. Damn those minors! (Minor Tests, that is)..
And I’m finally free from the clutches of Chemistry.

My daily time table is a glorious one.. Wake up late, ice cream, the internet, ice cream, the internet, a movie, the internet, ice cream and sleep…

Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired.

Maybe a visit to the ol’ Church might help us pass some time.. but I doubt it.

I have a brilliant idea on how you all can utilize your time: Go to sleep, wake up, eat some ice cream, buy a good book and go out for a walk/drive alone and witness the great beauty of the Summer Vacation, the Joys of Doing Nothing (or very little of something).. It ain’t always fun to be surrounded by people.. And yeah, leave your phones behind..

When you learn to appreciate the nuances of boredom and of doing nothing during the holidays, you inch towards Nirvana.. So.. do nothing and I give you instant gratification.. Moksha.
